AWS Big Data · 2026-06-12 · data

AWS has announced the capability to read from and write to S3 locations managed by Lake Formation using Apache Spark jobs deployed on Amazon EMR. This feature allows users to leverage Lake Formation's credential vending system for accessing S3 data files directly.

The new functionality is available in EMR release label 7.13 and later, as well as in Boto3 version 1.42.29 and later, AWS Java SDK version 2.41.32 and later, and AWS Command Line Interface (CLI) version 2.33.1 and later. This enhancement streamlines data access for users working with big data applications on AWS.

Why it matters for certification candidates

This development is significant for those pursuing AWS certifications, particularly the AWS Certified Solutions Architect and AWS Certified Data Analytics tracks. Understanding how to manage data access and permissions in AWS environments is crucial for exam preparation and real-world applications.
